What is MAC Address?

MAC Address known as Media Access Control Address is just an address assigned to an electronic device which uses a wireless communication for its functioning. Each device has its own unique MAC Address. This address is assigned to the device by the manufacturer and is stored in the device’s firmware area. You can see a device’s MAC Address by going into the specific settings. These settings vary for every device. So, we have listed how to find the MAC Address for your Android/iPhone and a computer running with Windows 7 or 8 OS. If you use Windows XP or Vista, still we have a solution for you!

What is the usage of MAC Address?

MAC Address makes the device to work with Ethernet based network. The communication packets are sent on the Ethernet from a MAC Address and sent to a specific MAC Address.

What is MAC Address Filtering?

The one and only advantage of MAC filtering is that you don’t have to buy any special attachment for the device that connect to the network. You only have to enable/disable the option in Router Settings. The default option is disabled, as it is hard to setup. If you feel that your network needs more security layers, you have to enable MAC Address Filtering. To setup MAC Address Filtering, you must configure a certain devices which you will allow to use the network.

Finding MAC Address in your Android Phone/Tablet:

Step 1: Go to Settings in your Android phone.

Step 2: Scroll down to the end, you can see “About Phone”. Tap that.

Step 3: There will be an option similar to: “Status” , “Hardware Information”, or “Network Information”.

Step 4: Voila, you can find the MAC Address there.

Finding MAC Address in iPhone:

Step 1: From your iPhone‘s home screen, Go to Settings

Step 2: Go to General > About > Your MAC Address will be termed as WiFi Address

Step 1: Follow the above procedure which is mentioned for iPhone. Go to Settings > About > WiFi Address

Finding MAC Address in Windows 7/Windows 8/XP/Vista

Step 1: Open Command Prompt by going to RUN and type: “cmd.exe” or type cmd in search box. Make sure that you open Command Prompt as Administrator by right clicking it.

Step 2: After opening Command Prompt window, type: getmac (without spaces). Have a look at the screenshot below:
